This 19th Century Spode bowl has an Italian landscape design in traditional blue and white created through underglaze transfer printing developed by Josiah Wedgewood.
It is part of collection of Kintsugi work where I find old pottery pieces that are notable and damaged and then repair them using the technique of Kintsugi.
The piece has been finished with 24 carat gold leaf highlighting the repairs in the style of Kintsugi
Kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery"), also known as Kintsukuroi (金繕い, "golden repair"), is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, a method similar to the maki-e technique.
This is a a repaired Staffordshire bowl and is therefore not functional. Delicate cleaning is recommended using a soft brush or gentle dusting with a lint free cloth. The piece should not be washed, not cleaned in a dishwasher.
